Effective June 11, 2026
Dayli is built to be calm and private. This page explains, in plain language, what happens with your information. The short version: by default your journey stays on your device and no account is required. You can optionally sign in with your email to back up and sync your journey across devices. We never sell your data.
Who we are
Dayli is provided by Michael Moore (“we,” “us,” or “Dayli”). For the limited personal information described below, we act as the data controller — meaning we’re responsible for how it’s handled.
What stays on your device
By default, most of what you put into Dayli — your moods, journey, reflections, future-self letters, name, and preferences — is stored locally on your device. It is not tied to an account and is not uploaded to a Dayli server unless you turn on cloud backup.
Optional email sign-in & cloud backup
Dayli works fully without an account. If you want to protect your journey or move it to a new device, you can choose to sign in with your email. We send a one-time secure sign-in link (a “magic link”) to that address — there is no password.
When cloud backup is on, a copy of your journey — moods, journey entries, future-self letters, and your Dayli Plus status — is uploaded to our secure backend so you can restore it on another device. This data is tied to your account and only accessible to you. You can save, restore, or delete this backup at any time from Settings, and turning the feature off keeps everything on-device as before.
Information we or our providers process
We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run Dayli:
Chat messages & day context — when you talk to the Dayli companion, your message and a little context about your day are sent securely to our AI provider to generate a reply. We use this only to respond to you in the moment.
Email & cloud backup — if you choose to sign in, we process your email address to send your secure sign-in link and to associate your optional backup with you. We never receive or store your password.
Anonymous usage analytics — to understand how Dayli is used and improve it, we record a small set of anonymous product events (such as opening the app or starting a check-in) keyed only to a random device identifier. These events contain no personal data and are processed on our own backend — no third-party trackers, no advertising cookies.
Purchase & billing information — if you subscribe to Dayli Plus, our payment processor (Stripe) collects the details needed to take payment, such as your email, billing address, and payment method. Dayli never sees or stores your card details.
Basic technical data — like any website, our hosting provider may process limited technical information such as your IP address and device/browser type to deliver the app securely and prevent abuse.
Why we use it & our legal basis
We use this information to provide the app and the companion you ask for (to perform our agreement with you), to keep Dayli secure and prevent fraud, and to handle your subscription (our legitimate interests and, for purchases, performing our agreement). We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell or rent your information. We share the limited data above only with the providers who help us run Dayli:
Stripe — our payment processor. Stripe handles payments, subscription management, invoicing, and refunds for Dayli Plus.
Our AI, hosting & backend providers — to generate companion replies, to run the app securely, and (if you enable it) to deliver email sign-in and store your optional cloud backup.
We may also disclose information to professional advisers or authorities where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
On-device data stays until you delete it. Chat messages are not stored by Dayli after a reply is generated. If you turn on cloud backup, your backup is kept until you delete it or remove your account, after which it is erased. Purchase records are kept by Stripe and by us for as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal and tax obligations, then deleted or anonymised.
Your rights
You can access, correct, or delete your personal information, and you may object to or ask us to restrict certain uses. You can erase all on-device data anytime from Settings → “Delete my data,” and if you use cloud backup you can delete that backup from Settings as well. For anything else, contact us using the details below. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit and limited access — to protect your information. No method is perfectly secure, but we work hard to keep Dayli safe.
Cookies
Dayli uses only essential storage needed to run the app and remember your preferences. We don’t use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Our payment processor may set cookies needed to process checkout securely.
Children
Dayli is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to how we handle your information, we’ll update the effective date at the top of this page.
